These are truly unique and beautifully hand crafted wooden shoes with wide leather straps. The year 1914 is carved into the wood, along with the name of either the wearer or the crafter. There are several words for wooden clogs such as choppino (Italy), sabot (France and Belgium), and klompen (Holland). During the European Industrial Revolution, wooden shoes were the most common or everyday working shoe. The wood construct was deemed to be ideal for protecting the feet from cold and wet conditions. Clogs are a very important part of Dutch culture and are still worn in rural parts of the country. This pair would be a great addition for a collector or simply a unique decor item for the eclectic home.
